Water Street Restaurant & Lounge Profile

In loft-laden DUMBO where space is oxymoronically at a premium, this enormous
watering hole (located in a former iron foundry) just might be too big for its
own good. Upstairs, a restaurant churns out upscale pub grub in view of a
projection screen television vying for Brooklyn's biggest. Towards the back,
a lounge area (in a refurbished carriage house) sticks to the tried-and-true
formula of large abstract paintings over overstuffed leather couches. Downstairs,
a raw space christened the UnderWater lounge is geared towards private events.
Indeed, judging by its sheer size and unseen crowds, the entire joint seems best
suited for Bar Mitzvahs and corporate get-togethers. The location, near the
Brooklyn and Manhattan bridges, can't be beat for cobbled-street charm, and the
drinks—nearly a twenty beers on tap and generously poured mixed drinks—reward
those who venture in. Now someone needs to throw a party.

4 STARS! Been here twice and will definitely be back. Both times had the burger
and they're just amazing! The calamari is also really good. Large space inside,
and they have several tables out front on Water St. which is nice on a warm day.

5 STARS! I have been to Water Street a few times, and bizarrely, I've never had
the Water Burger. I ALWAYS get the burger, and this one even comes standard
with bacon and cheese; the way burgers were meant to be eaten. Determined to
rectify this situation, I sat down at the bar and went to order it.

But then, the Cajun Burger rose up off the bar menu and demanded attention like
a drunken bridesmaid.* This thing is blackened, topped with andouille sausage,
BBQ sauce, and an onion ring. Sausage ON TOP? No chance I wasn't ordering this.
I was NOT disappointed. The burger was everything I hoped it would be. It came
out, actually medium rare, thick, juicy, flavorful and amazing. Fittingly, this
Cajun burger might have been the best burger I've eaten since leaving New Orleans.
I later ran into Reggie, the chef, on the stairs, and I thanked him for this
burger to the point that he was just trying to get away from me. I think he was
afraid I had fallen in love with him based on his burger-making abilities. And
he was right

5 STARS! I love this place. I have been for brunch/lunch and dinner and am never
disappointed. The food is simple, true, but really tasty and the prices are correct.
However, its the atmosphere which keeps bringing me back, always friendly and
something for everyone. If you are with people who prefer a bar stool to a table,
the will be delighted with the long bar and extensive selection. If your with diners
who prefer a sit down meal with service, they can sit in the elegant but not stuffy
restaurant part. But truly the nicest thing at Water St is to go with a group of
friends ( I have done two time with 10 buddies for their birthdays) and to sit in
your own kind of secluded area and have food and drinks. we were never put under
pressure to leave the table for more people even many hours after finishing eating
and we always stayed on for drinks. Its that kind of service that keeps me coming
back.

4 STARS! Beautiful and big brick walled bar and restaurant in DUMBO. The top floor
is a restaurant that boasts a large projection television, which is perfect for the
games on Sunday. They made a lounge in the back area, which used to be a carriage
house. You can throw private parties here and if I had the cash I would, because
it is beautifully decorated and has perfect decor.

“Excellent food, drink, and the owner of the Water St. Restaurant was really
nice and even helped us find our coats! I'll have to return sometime to
dine there!"

"The food was great, the best appetizers I have ever had - no seriously.
Everything was well prepared, the place 5 Stars, food 5 Stars...the staff
5 Stars and the people 5 Stars."

"I'm officially a huge, huge fan of Water Street Restaurant. The Yelpers had
plenty of beautiful space to mingle, sit, and chat in the sexily named
"Underwater Lounge." The bartenders were terrific and so was the rest of the
wait staff, who were harried by us all night. The food was absolutely delicious.
I ended conversations mid-sentence to follow those vixens with their silver
trays of culinary goodness. The shrimp, the meatballs, the wings, the mushroom
and polenta, the satay.... They really put out for us, in both quality and
quantity, and I won't forget how immensely happy it made me. So. Freakin'.
Good. Definitely going to go back one of these days."

“Who ever thought Brooklyn could be so trendy? This event is the proof!
Water Street Restaurant did a fantastic job with the food.. I couldn't get
enough of those meatballs…”

“Water Street Restaurant is a really beautiful place, definitely would come
check it out again. Excellent appetizers passed around, I was personally fond
of the shrimp & meatballs.”

Venue: First thing I did when I waked in was talk to my +1 (we're both
event planners) about the amazing space. You could have easily fit 200 people
in here, and the two screens were such a great touch. The double tier layout
and the more-than-sufficient seating made the Underwater Lounge just perfect.
Food: Got to sample the meatballs, coconut shrimp and the chicken wings.
All good.

Another awesome venue & I'll have to stop by again to try dinner because the
hors d'oeuvres were fantastic!

Water Street gets a watering hole to call its own.

The Scene
DUMBO still mystifies: Its cobblestone streets are deserted once the sun goes
down, yet luxury buildings continue to pop up, then fill up with posh residents.
66 Water Street, tucked away just a block from the East River, looks to be the
neighborhood's local tavern, with a long wooden bar that could date back to the
turn of the century--or could be brand new. Overlook the too-bright lighting and
the tepid music in this vast, brick-walled space and focus instead on the choice
ironwork on the stairway railings: It recalls the girders of the nearby Brooklyn
Bridge.

The Draw
Location, location, location--rarely do the words resonate so. If the 'hood were
swimming with nightlife options, Water Street wouldn't be anything special. But
if DUMBO residents don't have to stray too far from home, and the selection of
beers on tap is passable, then it's a welcome addition to the nabe. And don't
fear Brooklyn, out-of-borough travelers: 66 Water Street's business card features
a decent map so you'll be able to find your way back.

Water Street Restaurant & Lounge Profile

Description

No wonder the locals like this place: It has 20 beers on tap,
good food and bartenders who take the time to get to know their
customers. The upperlevel of the former spice warehouse has
enough room to comfortably pack in a large crew. Windows along
the back wall offer a fishbowl view into the downstairs performance
venue, appropriately named the “UnderWater Lounge.”

I stumbled on this charming restaurant last night and had a GREAT time. When
I saw a huge bar & beer selection I thought it's a bar and burger joint. But
still ordered Coconut Shrimp & an Eggplant Napolean appetizer - which were
amazing! For dinner I had sea scallops with mushroom risotto and my buddy had
stuffed chicken with sundried tomatoes, capers and mozzerella, smothered in
tomato sauce and we both loved it. For dessert we had the house special called
murder by chocolate, it was a chocolate mousse cake with a big knife sticking
out of it and raspberry sauce -- and I swear, it DID look like someone was
murdered..and I could see why...if they tried to take it from me, I would have
murdered someone too! It was THAT good.
